More Bookings. Stronger Reviews. Healthier Margins.

Independent hotel audits that trace problems to their source, fix what's costing you, and build the foundation for long-term profitability.

Running an independent hotel means wearing every hat, making hundreds of decisions daily, and somehow staying ahead in an industry that never stands still.  But staying on top of everything doesn't mean that everything is under control and, even in a well-run hotel, small cracks can start to form in your operations. You can be left awake at night worrying about rising guest expectations or the challenges of direct booking, or wondering if the one-star review posted at midnight is an isolated complaint or the tip of something bigger.  You may even start wondering how long you can keep this up.

The demands of running a busy property make it almost impossible to step back and see it objectively, and by the time problems show up in a scathing review or a dip in profits, the damage is already done and the cause is harder to trace.

The hotels pulling ahead are the ones with the clearest picture of where they stand. And this starts with independent, expert insight.

Gabr Pilkington don’t conduct tick-box inspections. Drawing on decades of hands-on experience across every facet of hotel management, we analyse how your systems, standards and people work together. We find the root causes of issues that are difficult to spot from the inside and show you exactly what needs to change, so you can run your hotel profitably, sustainably and with genuine peace of mind.

With offices in the UK and Egypt, Gabr Pilkington provide discreet, tailored audits and strategic guidance that give you the detailed insight needed to:

  • Catch problems early, ideally before they impact revenue, reputation or your stress levels
  • Turn constant fire-fighting into the confidence to lead long-term growth
  • Put the right systems in place, so your business can grow without everything falling on your shoulders.
  • Deliver the experience guests expect consistently, without it costing you more than it should.
  • Keep what makes your hotel special intact, so you're not just another option: you're the obvious choice.

Audit Services

Independent hotels operate differently. There are no large, centralised oversight teams, and when you’re immersed in the day-to-day running of a property, it’s difficult (not to mention time-consuming) to identify structural friction. This means problems are harder to detect - and more expensive when missed.

And yet, that broader perspective is essential.

A 2025 study* analysing over 80,000 negative hotel reviews indicated that the causes of complaints are multi-dimensional and may not reveal what's truly going wrong underneath. We believe that problems are often the result of multiple systems breaking down together: handovers, workflows, standards, and decision-making processes that don’t align across teams. When you fix just one part, the problem may just reappear somewhere else. That’s frustrating for your team, and expensive for your brand.

How An Independent Audit Changes This Outcome

With an experienced, external eye examining the system as a whole, the root causes of problems can be identified and resolved - ideally before they show up as public feedback or internal friction, or hold back your growth. The result is calm, predictable control across your operation, giving your staff and guests confidence, and you the security of a strong reputation and a profitable business.

Pre-Opening Audit

A rocky opening can follow a small business for years. Plan for good reviews and rapid growth with a Pre-Opening Audit to make sure every process, touchpoint and team member is ready, and your first impression is the right one.

Soft Opening & Opening Audit

The habits and gaps that form as you begin trading are the hardest to unpick later. Ensure high quality service and an excellent guest experience from the moment you open, with clear processes and prepared staff helping avoid costly operational surprises.

Growth Audit

When business is good, blind spots go unnoticed and the gaps that threaten long-term growth stay hidden. An expert audit changes that,  uncovering what's working against you, protecting your reputation, and building the foundation for sustainable growth.

Health & Safety Audit

Health and safety risks rarely announce themselves. They sit unnoticed in daily operations until something goes wrong and, in hospitality, the consequences can be severe.  A Health & Safety Audit identifies hazards and closes compliance gaps before they become a crisis, giving you, your team and guests confidence that they are protected.

Brand Standards Audit

Inconsistency is the quiet killer of small hotel reputations. Are the standards you set for your team upheld when you're not there? A Brand Standards Audit makes sure your quality, identity and service are consistent enough to earn  reputation, encourage repeat business, and drive powerful word-of-mouth recommendations.

Environmental Audit

Sustainability is no longer a nice-to-have for small hotels - guests are choosing where to stay based on it. But beyond reputation, unchecked energy use, water waste and poor practices are a direct hit to your bottom line. An Environmental Audit pinpoints the inefficiencies, reduces the costs, and makes sure your hotel's values are visible.
